The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs previously introduced a proposal that would have allowed nurses to, "Order, perform, supervise, and interpret laboratory and imaging studies." The OSRT and ASRT voiced strong opposition to the proposal. The OSRT encouraged RTs to join in the efforts to oppose the shortsighted proposal.

The OSRT is pleased to announce that the VA heard the concerns from the medical imaging community, as such, the proposed language for NPs performing medical imaging will not be part of the final rule! Thank you to those who submitted comments.

The VA included the following statement: “It is not the VA’s intent to replace our highly qualified radiologists or radiological technologists. VA is committed to providing high-quality health care for our nation’s veterans and is proud of the outstanding work performed by radiologists in our system.”
