OSRT Position Statements

Read OSRT Position Statements

Writing New or Substitute Position Statements

To write a new or substitute position statement, use the OSRT position statement form below. The rationale for the position statement appears in the "Whereas" sections.  There can be up to three "Whereas" sections in each position statement.  Each "Whereas" ends with a semicolon(;) and the second to last "Whereas" ends with a semicolon and the word "and" (see the sample position statement that follows). The "Resolved" section must be able to stand on its own. This means it must have its own noun and its own verb and must be a complete sentence.  There can be only one "Resolved" per position statement.

If offering a substitute to a position statement, the original position statement becomes "A" and the substitute becomes "B."

Writing a Resolution to Sunset a Position Statement

To write a resolution sunsetting a position statement, use the OSRT position statement form.  The "Whereas" section of the position statement must state why the position statement should be sunset and the "Resolved" section of the resolution must state the action that the author wants the Board of Directors to take.

The title of the resolution must be:
"Sunset of OSRT Position Statement "_________."

The full text of the position statement must be quoted at the end of the resolution.  The quoted material must be indented and appear in italics.

Writing a Resolution to Revise a Position Statement

To write a resolution revising a position statement, use the OSRT position statement form.  The "Whereas" section of the resolution must state why the position statement should be revised and the "Resolved" section of the resolution must state the action that the author wants the Board of Directors to take.

The title of the resolution must be:
"Revision of OSRT Position Statement "_______."

The full text of the position statement must be quoted in the "Resolved" section of the resolution.

Submission of OSRT Position Statements

Any active or life member of the OSRT may author and submit a position statement for consideration by the Board of Directors. All submitted position statements must be directed to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.  It is the responsibility of the Chairperson to bring the submitted position statement and any foreseen implications to the Board of Directors at its next scheduled meeting, time permitting.

Vote results for all submitted position statements shall be relayed to the author via a letter from the Chairperson of the Board, and to the membership at large via the next issue of Cardinal Rays and/or the Webpage, and annually in the Buckeye Rays.
