Ohio Shines at the 2025 ASRT Annual Education Symposium and House of Delegates Meeting

HOD OH Reps1 2025 wIt’s hard to believe another ASRT Annual Education Symposium and House of Delegates (HOD) Meeting has come and gone! This year’s event took place June 19–22, 2025, in Reno, Nevada, and once again, Ohio made a strong and proud showing.

In addition to our two Ohio Affiliate Delegates, Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists (OSRT) President Allison Stokes and OSRT President-Elect Tiffany Roman, we were also thrilled to have three Student Leadership Development Program participants: Shayne Caudill (University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College), Kate Collins (The Ohio State University), and Jennifer Allen (Northern Kentucky University).

Kris Allison 2025 ASRT wOhio’s presence extended across several ASRT Chapters as well. Kris Seitz represented Magnetic Resonance (MR), Emma Palmer represented Computed Tomography (CT) and served as Chair of the Practice Standards Council, Teresa Taggert (OSRT Board Director) and Lucas Gross represented Nuclear Medicine, and Gary Greathouse represented Quality Management. At the first HOD session on Friday, Ohio was awarded first place in the ASRT Annual Raffle, earning $750 for selling the most tickets. These funds will support strategic initiatives of the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Heather Podium wDr. Heather Moore also provided an update on her 2024-2025 presidential initiatives, which focused on addressing the workforce shortage, developing educational modules to improve care for patients with disabilities, and introducing Big Brothers Big Sisters programs into the medical imaging profession.

Key Bylaws and Policy Updates: Two significant proposed bylaw revisions were introduced and debated:

1. Bylaw 25.01 – Membership Policy and Procedure: Legal counsel addressed the HOD for the first time in recent memory, urging support for revised language affirming ASRT’s commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination. The revision aligns with federal mandates and aims to protect the organization from potential legal challenges. The ASRT Board committed to reviewing the language annually to ensure inclusivity.

2. Bylaw 25.03 – Membership Dues and Fees: The ASRT Board proposed the ability to increase annual dues by up to 8% with only Board approval (rather than requiring HOD approval). The rationale included the fact that dues have not increased since 2013, and the actual value of an individual ASRT membership is estimated at $800. The proposed change passed after thorough discussion.

Organizational Updates

ASRT reported an 86.12% member retention rate, highlighted the breadth of CEU and CQR resources, and shared updates on advocacy efforts and the “Rad Position” podcast hosted by CEO Melissa Pergola.

ARRT announced fee increases effective January 1, 2026, and shared early plans for new workforce support roles, including the Imaging Assistant (I.A.) pathway, starting with MRI I.A. to support remote scanning operations.

JRCERT provided a timeline for the next standards revision, set for implementation by January 2031, and announced the retirement of long-serving CEO Leslie Winter after 30 years of service.
