OSRT honors members for outstanding service or achievement through various awards, honorary titles, and special acknowledgments. These honors are based on factors like professional expertise, significant contributions, long-term dedication, and leadership. The OSRT could not be what it is without the efforts of these individuals. 

OSRT Technologist of the Year Award Rules

Who may nominate?
Any OSRT active member may electronically submit a nominee application.

Eligible nominees must meet this criteria:

  1. Be a current member in good standing with a minimum of at least six years OSRT membership.
  2. Be credentialed and in good standing for at least six years with: ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB.
  3. Have served the OSRT as an officer, editor, committee chair or committee member.
  4. Must be present at the OSRT Francine Todd Memorial Business Session at the Annual Meeting.

Complete and submit the electronic application form by May 15. The membership will vote on nominees online. The winner will be notified prior to the Annual Meeting.

In 1975, the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists established an annual Quiz Bowl Competition as a means to support professional interactions for students enrolled in approved radiography programs. During this annual event, a spirit of competition has always been encouraged. In addition, the event serves as a mechanism to review radiography curricular content in an interesting format that fosters discussion of relevant technical information. Over the years, many improvements have been implemented as a result of advancements in technology and many people within OSRT have invested significant dedicated service to assure successful quiz bowl competitions each year. In 1966, the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists initiated sponsorship of the Guest Invitational Lecture formally called the "Penn-Hu-Mac-Par-Gill Lecture," currently named the Past Presidents Honors Lecture. This lecture series was conceived to pay tribute to members of the OSRT who were elected to serve as President of the ASRT.  Currently, there are six (6) OSRT members who have served as President of the ASRT.  These distinguished technologists are Rubygrant Pennell, R.T.(R): 1954; W. Jay Huston, R.T.(R): 1961; Roland C. McGowan, R.T. (R); Joan Parsons, R.T.(R): 1989; Julie Gill, R.T.(R): 2014; and Heather Moore, R.T.(R): 2025. On November 12-13, 1938, forty-eight x-ray technicians met in Lima, Ohio and signed an Affiliation Charter of the American Society of X-ray Technicians. These signatures officially formed the Ohio Society of X-ray Technicians, now formally recognized as the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists (OSRT). That same year, the first Annual Meeting of the OSXT was held. Since then, elections of officers and board members have been held at each annual meeting. Beginning at its inception, annual meetings have been held by OSRT every year with the exception of the war years of 1943,1944, and 1945, and in 2020 during the COVID pandemic.

Fellow is an honorary designation representing a significant breadth and depth of contribution to the ASRT and the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession. A Fellow is an exemplary leader who has consistently served, advocated for and supported advancement of the profession. OSRT initiated this category with the inaugual class of Fellows in 2025. Life Members are active members who have rendered unusual service to the Society. Life Membership is granted by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors.  Life members pay no dues and have all the obligations and privileges of an active member.

Honorary Members are those persons whom the Society desires to honor because of their demonstrated interest in and/or contributions to the Society. Honorary Membership is granted by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors.  Honorary Members pay no dues and have all the privileges and obligations of active members except the right to vote or hold office.

Nomination process for Life or Honorary Membership: Any OSRT active member may electronically submit an application for a nominee for the Life or Honorary Member status. The deadline for submission is May 15 each year. The Board of Directors will vote on the nominee at its 2nd mid-year board meeting. Nominees will be notified of the outcome, and the award will be presented at the business meeting session during the OSRT Annual Meeting. The nominee must meet the criteria listed above.
