Now is the time to make your voice heard! The Medicare Access to Radiology Act, better known as MARCA, is important legislation that will make our patients safer. We need your help to gain more support in the U.S. Senate.
Currently, radiologists and facilities who hire radiologist assistants are not allowed to bill Medicare for many of the procedures that RAs are competent to perform. This issue has resulted in radiologist practices choosing to hire other non-radiology providers instead of RAs and limiting the number of job opportunities for RAs.
By no longer separating radiologist assistant reimbursement policies into different payment categories by service location, Senate Bill 4624, would enable radiologists to devote more focused time to reviewing and interpreting complex medical images or urgent cases, thus increasing patients’ access to care. RAs will be able to work more efficiently, and Medicare patients will receive care from qualified RAs regardless of the facility in which their procedure takes place.
